One might say it's ingenuous, or perhaps the dumbest idea they've ever seen depending on perspective.
I'll stick with smart for now.

In situ

I would reserve judgement until you have seen the other end

Re: Paint your Wagon

SO the idea is to fit a pair of heated screens in the near future ( I.e. when funds allow). For the foreseeable future and MOT the Smiths heater will have to do the demisting. The standard problem in an older Series two is that the passenger’s feet are red hot, every other part of the truck is freezing and the windows are steamed up. I thought I could modify things with out it looking too un-original.
I thought I might be able to improve things by only having on demister outlet on the heater. I have used a slightly larger diameter hose (from a vacuum cleaner). I have made the whole thing as air tight as possible (using the vacuums fittings/O rings). There are a couple of choke points where the hose goes through the bulkhead and where it leaves the heater ( I am not sure if this is a problem). The other end of the vacuum hose will be used temporarily to de-mist the windscreen. Then the hope is that when the new windscreen is fitted I can turn the hose around and use it as a foot well heater for the driver’s side.
I have also stripped the Smiths heater, blasted out the fins with the air line, oiled up the motor, and plugged up as many of the gaps at the back of the motor as possible. I put new bigger cables into the motor to try and avoid any voltage drop problems. So does it work?... well I can not really tell yet, as the engine does not run. It seems to deliver a fair draft though. I will let you know what happens (when the engine works).

Took this fan off the front of the engine. I am guessing it should not be there, and I can not see what it would do? It is however extremely heavy.

Is it the old radiator fan?

Re: Paint your Wagon
As you can see from the photo, I have also removed the dynamo ( this was also stupidly heavy and required quite a lot of swearing during the removal procedure
). I have fitted a new temperature sender inside the old mixture/running temperature switch. I also spotted (as you can see from the photo) that the thermostat seems to be missing

So what do people know about thermostats for the 6 cyl
Are they the same as the 2 ¼
Do I need to choose a particular temperature , or are they all the same
What I think I have found out so far is this: 2.6 and 2 ¼ thermostats are different. The 2.6 works at 73degrees and the 2 ¼ at 74 degrees. The 2.6 is a wafer thin design similar to lots of cars from the 70’s. The 2 ¼ is a cup shape about half an inch thick and needs a special housing. What I seem to have is the 2 ¼ housing ground down to fit on the 2.6 head, so I need a 2 ¼ ‘stat otherwise it will rattle round in the space like a pea in a tin… more to follow later.

One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind
… err well
possibly not, but certainly a significant turning point for the project.

Stat housing is way different to an FC/six cylinder one.
