Where the diagram causes difficulties is in the way in which the proportions are quite exaggerated, it gives the impression that the 6.5" rims are massively different in width, both between them and a 5.5" rim, and between the 569203 and the 569204. In some light conditions you can actually struggle to tell a 5.5" rim from a 6.5", although it is harder to confuse one with the 203.
To throw another spanner in the works I suspect (although am yet to prove it) that there were slight production variations over time, as is fairly typical of Land Rover parts. What is ideally needed is a web page or forum thread to enable people to identify ALL Land Rover rims.
Another aspect of our difficulties is that terms like "1-Ton" are bandied around without much reference to what it really means. It is quite normal to find people talking about any Land Rover with extended spring hangers as being a 1-Ton, the same applies with wheel rims, with any wider rim being described as a 1-Ton rim (or, amusingly, as a 1 Tonne rim) when there is no such thing. The parts books do indeed say that 1-Tons had 569204 rims, but we know for certain that some (many?) were built with 569203 rims. I would give Nicks "Kenny" as an example - owned initially by various garages who more then likely had nothing to do with Land Rovers and were not particularly interested in the vehicle, it was simply a tool. The state of the chassis would suggest it was maintained on a shoestring budget. It would seem inconceivable that anyone would have sought out a set of "IIB rims" (569203) to fit to it. Likewise, the fact that it was laid up with the rims still on would lend credence to the idea that nobody knew what they were or particularly cared. The last owner before Nick seemed to know a little about Land Rovers so may have known what the rims were but kept them on. As such, I'm happy enough to conclude the 569203 rims it wears now are it's original rims. The question we do not have an answer for though is why there seems to have been a variation of rims, ie, we know some 1-ton did indeed have the "correct" 569204 rims fitted and still do. Supply difficulties? Optional specification? Or Harry on the production line pulling the wrong set out of the stores? I suspect we will never know for sure. The build cards I have seen for 1-Tons actually make no reference to the type of wheels fitted.

Ah,
Harry on the production line pulling the wrong set out of the stores? I suspect we will never know for sure.
Here I must pick you up young Dan. I think we DO know for sure...

Harry on production has a LOT to answer for. It's why tragic muppets like you and I are prattling on today!
As you were. Part numbers make me moist. ;)

M2CW. Such a page would be great. I followed the informative saga by Mr Wit on another forum, and learned a lot. The "offset" and "deepset" issues need be clarified though as it can cause great confusion. I have both 569203 types if you need fotos.

If we can collate the info together on all Land Rover rims I can add it as a page to www.onetonlandrover.co.uk, it would certainly be a useful addition.

I've not got time to do it now, but a diagram based on the information in my post (on anther forum) would be accurate. The diagram would have to take account of the variations:

2 x 543384
2 x 569204
3 x 569203
1 x ANR1534

And a few others. A fair bit of work to do properly. But when done it still would not help you identify the rims when buying from Ebay for example. Any photos won't tally, so for example how would the diagram identify this?

Do you see the problem? Your starter for ten. It would be described as a deep dish one ton rim (they all are), but is it? Yo might know, but no diagram can tell you.

I would have said that rim ^^^ was a late type 109" rim, from about 1970 onwards, but I could be wrong. It is very difficult to tell from photos. The early type 109" rim (ie with inset) and the 5" rim are virtually indistinguishable if viewed on a vehicle.

Sorry, you fell right in. It wasn't a smart-arse attempt to catch you out. But think, how would a diagram have helped you? Buying it is going to be from a pic like that one.

That is ANR1534. the 130 rim, seen on Ebay most weeks as a one ton deep-dish. Now do you see why that diagram is very choclolate teapot, because by the time you have the rim in front of you, it's gone academic.

Here it is again:

Those real-deal 4 x 569203 went to £511.00, so £125.00 a corner. Not cheap but not as pricey as I've seen.

Indeed the diagram is only so much use - what is needed is photos and measurements really. Very easy to be caught out, especially as different size tyres can create all sorts of optical illusions. I even recall someone being quite certain SEB was fitted with 569204 rims ;)
