I finally got the tape measure out the other day, the result of the survey:-
Image

543384 offset is 2 7/8 ins

Image

569203 offset is 3 3/4 ins

Image

503489 offset is 2 15/16 ins

The last one is the odd number, no-one seems to know about although it's pretty close to the 11a rim.

These may be of some use to someone, although I never take a tape measure to the Sortout!

503489 is not a LR rim. I've been told from various sources that 503489 is a Austin Champ rim, and I contacted an Austin forum to get some confirmation, and they confirm that a 'few' Champs have these. At one point I was sure, but it is a bit woolly. Champ rims do fit LRs, but it would not surprise me if you told me you'd found these rims on a untouched 109.

Of course enthusiasts like us, 30 odd years later will swap and change which can't help, and Champ owenrs I'm sure are found doing the same. Thus, those 'few' Champs with 503489, who knows? It is certainly common to see Champs running parts form Landrovers, afterall we ahve relatively commonplace vehicles compared to Champs, and if you own a Champ and you want a part and it fits what would you do?

Defiinitively I would say 503489 is a Champ rim, until I'm proved wrong, and it happens.

Deep pockets anyone?

The real-deal 569203 rims are on eaby right now:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... SS:GB:3160

If you can get them for less than £400 you've done well. I've seen these fetch double that. It's not the money, it's pure rarity (rather thatn ebay 'rare') For every set of 'claimed' 2B rims I've seen they won't be these. Dig deep.
Have fun.

Oddly enough, another rim has just been put on ebay, but beware, it's a faker, (unlike yours young Dan) and there are lots of these about. See the XXXXs under the number.

How curious, can't they see the XXXXXX markings? I would hazard a guess that one is off a TACR-1.

Still looking forward to your in-depth rivet-counting thread on the various 6.5" wheelrims. :DD

The usual posts you see on forums can be written with little or no thought, because they have no content (and like this very one are just vacuous opinion!) I will do that thread, only something like that takes time, real work and research when information is often sketchy. It's probably a day of my time or at least a good morning's work. Worse, if I get facts wrong, it easy to get caught out and with so much contradictory working info it is easy to do, so I like to get it right.

Yes, far easier to right utter twaddle! Standby.

No rivets on this diagram. I cobbled it together from indivdual web-sourced drawings so I could line up the drum faces - makes it easier to see where the set comes and goes 8-)

Always a useful diagram. However as always, the labels could be considered misleading, as there was no such thing as a specific rim for a specific vehicle. 1-Tons were factory fitted with 569203 and 569204 rims, that's a fact. Likewise you could spec 5.5" rims on a swb if you so wished. It would be interesting to see what rims were fitted to FCs, based on period photos etc.

I have to say, it helps but I'm really not a fan of that drawing. Sorry to put a downer on it, but It has flitted from forum to forum to forum and whilst it gives a rough idea, it is pretty useless in the real world. It is also missing several rims, and as Dan says, gives the impression you can definitively name or number these rims. Which as Dan points out you can't.

It is also wrong.

It gives you a clue, but I defy you to identify all the rims from this. Sorry. One thing I can assure you of is that the 4 x 569203 on ebay right now are the only real-deal rims of this type I've seen for sale in nearly a 12 month. In four years of looking, I've seen not much more than a dozen real-deal rims for sale. Often sold one at a time. How do i know, I could argue taht diagram did me a favour, it means few knew what to look for! Before I wrote taht post I got most of those rims - Very rare.

I notice the faker one has been taken down. Nice enough, but It was a mis-stamped 569204, pricey and rare enough, but compared to what we ahve here, common.

Those you see now, 'tis Real-deal i tells ya' Running now, looking like they're selling for well over £400. I'm out.
