Hi there members,
Found the forum during a search for IIA forward control Land Rover prices, one of which I have.
I was trying to see what a fully restored FC would be worth.
Anyway, my FC is a1964 IIA which, when I bought it, was factory original, and like all FCs was totally underpowered.
BUT, not wanting to destroy it's originality, and keep the original motor, I did some mods to make it a lot more useable.
Firstly, I removed the 7/1 head, acquired an 8/1 head and took 100 thou off that to give approx 9-10/1 compression.
Next was to add a 1/4 race cam, Weber carb and extractor exhaust.
This nearly doubled the horsepower, and the fuel consumption was lifted considerably, from 12mpg, to nearly 22mpg.
Doesn't make it go any faster, but at least it will pull the skin off a rice pudding, which it wouldn't do before.
I am now in the process of doing a complete ground up restoration, with no expense speared (within reason.)
So It is nice to find a forum that is LAND ROVER based, an anyone who would like to hear more about other inexpensive mods that can be done to FCs a lot more drivable, and fun to own, please let me know.

welcome to this forum. I've been on here for the last 6 years, lots of useful information. Where in NZ are you? Any photos or more details of FC?

There are other sympathetic mods you can make to the 2.25 for more go.
A ported head, better carburation (twin choke weber from a 2.5 petrol, or an 1 3/4" SU both improve gas and fuel flow, whilst a bigger exhaust will also help things along.

Thanks for that, will keep those mods in mind for the future, but as the cost of my full restoration is in excess of $15k so far, with more still needed, it may be a little way off.
