One for the SA lot

Pondering out loud a little, specifically in the direction of the post 1972 assembled SA IIB FC's fitted with Salisbury axles.

Say I was after a pair of IIB ones, what's the likelyhood of any coming up for sale, and any idea how much they might cost?

Das, it seems I'm the only Saffer reasonably active here, so here is my input.

IIBs suffix F come up for sale fairly regularly. Most have been converted to "campers" and have the Radio type body, similar to those of Col and Diana. Prices range from ZAR7500.00 to the rediculous, depending on the condition.

The latest one I know of that was sold for R7.5K had no engine and the camper part was stripped out, the rest was all in good nick, and NO rust at all. The new owner got a real bargain IMHO.

Some have been converted to the ridiculous in attempts to build double cabs etc and then the owner tries to recover some very miss-appropriated costs.

In general, a fairly complete IIB with 4.1 GM engine and registration documents will fetch R20K. Any price more than that is a rip-off, unless the truck is exceptional.

How easy is it to get them back to the UK?
For what I'm wanting to do I really only need a rolling chassis cab, Salisbury axles being a plus.
One missing the rear body at that sort of money is astounding!!!

Das, the last quote I got to send a 40' container to Rotterdam from here was R30K, some 8 months ago.

40' will take 2 FCs, but not the radio type, as the roof is too high. Thought of pushing them into the container on the rims, just to get them in.

I think 2 or more crudely stripped down FCs will fit into a 20' container.

Make your sums re the transport.

Do you need papers or mainly the components?

That's ludicrously cheap, borderline insane!!!
Personally I'm not bothered about the radio body types. My ideal vision of a IIB is a single cab vehicle with a dropside body, propelled by a decent size petrol engine...

I suppose one with an identity (by which I mean SA paperwork) would make it easier to register over here...
How to make it cheaper? Am I right in thinking you have a reasonable amount of rust free MK II Ford Escorts and other British classics that tend to dissolve in their native climate out there?

Something like... 2 doors are that bit more desirable, but solid 4's would still sell.

I really can't get over how cheap these cars are!!!
