8.25 x 16 - will they fit?

Saw a bloke with what looked like 8.25 x 16 - on a colier. Is there a reason these aren't seen more often in the stead of 9.00s?

I have 285-75-16 on a D90, they are about the same size. They clear the panels ok.

I'd guess they're not really that common a size.
I've only ever seen 8.25x16 in Withams sales, and only ever in a road tyre pattern.

Most likely why?

Didnt thos Volvo 4x4s for the Swedish army run that size, and in mud pattern?

I've seen them on 88's & 109's ....they look very similar to 255/85/16 .
