Even saw a Youtube clip where a prototype 101 FC was wearing these very 5 lug rims. Yes, I know, production 101 have 6 lug rims.

Yup, the early 101 prototypes used IIB spec ENV axles.

Page one of this guide, just done an edit, and now listed as a Type 5A in this thread. A new discovery. What for all purposes are early FC rims, so you'd expect to see these marked 543884, yet these are with 569204 stampings.

One question on this - were any of the ANR rims made in tubeless format?

There was some misinformation on this. I confess it fed into my first witterings on this subject. I was wrong.

In my own investigations, Pressing A - ANR1534 sometimes numbered 569204 - is definitely for tubes. There are no tubeless 'period-in-appearance' 'deep' rims on any number, let be ANR.

No hardship really, 7.50 tyres are right, and 9.00 if you can get them. Both will be suited to period rims and tubes.

The only thing to watch is valve-stem on a lot of modern tubes is smaller, hence it flops about. Get a spacer, but I've covered that here.

I asked as I wanted a set to fit 235/85R16s to, nevermind, I guess I will have to use modulars or something.

There's 235/85R16 tubes, so there must be tyres compatible with these eg: My Michelin 7.50 are stamped Tube or Tubeless. A bit of homework should see what is what, I wouldn't trust the word of your average Tyre Depot Fitter.

One thing I do know, a tube compatible tyre will be smooth inside, but a smooth inner, is not necessarily a sign of tube-compatibilty.

Not my take yet some might stick 235/85R16 tubeless on. 95 times out of a 100, they'll get away with it. It's a MOT fail if spotted.

Mind htough, if ever this came to a head, the insurers would see a clear get-out. Suspect I'm teaching granny here, but tubeless rims have a retaining band.

Currently the wisdom assuming 7.50 and tubes, is Michelin XZL, or the slightly cheaper Avon Rangemaster.

Suited to a coiler or maybe a proper FC. Sadly, will make an 88 or 109 look like a ride at the fair. I can see them selling like hot-cakes to the 'One Life' brigade, the Dutch and the Germans. The "I was never confused". leather-hat and umpteen jerry-cans becomes essential.
