Which do you drive: a 1-ton, a 1-ton or a 1-tonne?

I'm probably teaching granny here, but until recently I had no idea. Dependent on where you are in this world , there comes three tons. I was aware of the metric 'Tonne' with the 'ne'. I thought there was only one other, ie our 'ton'.

Turns out, the Yanks have a ton, and it's less than ours. The Yanks use a short-ton. Unless somebody says different, our beloved Landrover 1-Ton is to be pedantic, actually a '1-Long ton (2240 pounds)' Landrover.

If it were a '1-Tonne' Landrover it would carry less. (The metric 'tonne' is 1000kg - approximately 2204 pounds)
If it were a '1-Short ton' Landrover it would carry still less. (The Yank 'ton' is 2000 pounds)

Thus as it stands, and I see I'm being a little contrary, but dependent on who you spoke to, our beloved 1-ton comes understood to carry up to 2240lbs or as little as 2000lbs. Quite a difference.

Well.... if we are making a fuss over 240lbs, I will have to ask this question;

I believe that when BA sold the company in 1987 the name changed from 'Land-Rover' to 'Land Rover'. But it was never spelt 'Landrover' (as it is incorrectly spelt in this forum)

These things matter. We need to stand our ground. We drive a 'Land-Rover', 'Land Rover', 'Landrover' 1 ton, 1 ton, 1 tonne.

I think I've got it now. Only I'm not convinced I know how much I can carry;)

The brochure calls them a 1-Ton Land-Rover.

As to the hyphen, it was dropped in the early to mid 1980s (round about the change to coil springs) but the badges kept the hyphen...or at least some of the badges did. 90/110 grille badges spelled it as one word, but the 127 used the old stage 1 V8 badge which was hyphenated. They were never very consistent with it all.
