Looks like JLR finally came to their senses and offered a proper Defender! If only something like this (but a bit more affordable) had been available a few years ago...personally I think these are great, if only I had the cash!

If you go onto the JLR Facebook post about the new(2nd hand) defender and read the comments it’s hilarious. I especially liked the one that suggested they should of produced a 2018 200tdi 110 with a galv chassis and washable interior rather than this footballers wives car.

There are a lot of really dumb comments about. Why anyone would pine for the Tdi is beyond me. Even the Tdci (which outperforms a Tdi in every single way) was a make-do, and should have been better. The 3.2 5 cylinder variant should have been the standard. Personally I think the new V8 is great, out of my price range of course but still a lot of fun. Regarding the comments though it is no wonder JLR don't listen to the "traditionalists".

Of course the 'traditionalists who moan about this sort of thing (and how the new defender will be awful because it won't be anything like the old one) aren't the people who are going to go out and buy them.

It would likely have been a good seller when the Defender was still a current model, but I'm sure people would have found reason to complain about them then also.

As for price, yup there's better cars for the money, and you could have Nene Overland put a 5 litre Ford or Chevy V8 in your Defender for around half the Land Rover price, or JE Engineering do you a Supercharged Jag V8, but as has been pointed out elsewhere, they'll be the same as the old Overfinch Range Rovers, turning up in the small ads as something vaguely interesting, as opposed to a factory limited edition that remains desirable, and holds it's value.

A look at the 50th Anniversary 90's confirms that much.

The traditionalists certainly don't help. I recall one conversation with someone telling me how awful the Tdcis were, I asked how many he had driven/owned and he went quiet. I have driven Tdi, Td5 and Tdci Defenders at work, and they absolutely got better as time went on, in terms of comfort, drive ability and performance. A lot of folks have been griping about these V8s, I suspect mainly due to the fact they will never own one. Nor will I, but I can appreciate what they are, same as I can with a Mercedes 300SL or an Aston Martin DB5...

That interior is shocking, wouldn't look out of place on a 70's bond car
