I'm confused by fuel fillers. I should know this, the most bacic of rivet-counter facts - but I don't.
In short, there seems no rhyme nor reason to where they will be located. I understand military stuff tends to lack any, however my 109 [S3] had it where most are, at the very rear. Yet some RHD had fuel fillers right on the drivers door slam ( I think?). The S2 also had it there. But did it differ for LHD vehicles?

Is there a definitive position for a given model 88 or 109, or is it like everything else, whatever and where they decided to fit these on the day?

On series IIs and IIAs all models had front fill apart from 109" station wagons. When the six cylinder was introduced, all sixes got rear fill tanks even on utilities. In 1974ish all 109" got rear fill tanks irrespective of engine type.

Thanks, that clears that up. Reason I ask is I want to put an extra gas cylinder where my aft mounted tank is, and move my petrol tank. I might have thsi confused, but didn't military stuff get extra range tanks under the front seats? I rarely run my wagon on anything liquid, so need 2-3 gallons of petrol at most (for back-up), so was reckoning on putting the petrol tank there, but for safety I don't fancy it. I know these tanks have their filler inside the cabin, so suspect the cabin will reek of fuel too.

Yes, about ten gallons capacity.
If you've got an underseat filler and the seat box lid has a reasonable seal around it petrol smell/fumes don't present an issue, unless you've managed to spill it everywhere.

Thanks 'spose it was pretty obvious really. Never seen a seat box sealed, I'm sure it can't be too difficult to cobble-up something.

Just some of that self adhesive foam tape would be more than sufficient.

88" always had the front filler.

why not put the gas tanks under the seat

MOD style tanks do make the place stink when you fill up, but the breeze soon blows it away

Gas, ah... well it's like this.

I run, not on LPG, but from my domestic supply. The cylinders are huge things more like welding/ large scuba cylinders. Beats a great big gas bag like they did during WW2 rationing, but you need a lot of them. Looking for more space.

Quite involved to do, very nerdy, and not viable unless you do galactic miles or intend to keep you vehicles 10+ years. Was going to write a post if I had the arsed, but this writing lark, if you avoid vacuous-shite, is a lot of work.

My rims thread has just crashed 'cos of the image hosting. That's USD400 to photobucket, or a day's work to put right, so enough.

Australian MOD 88's and 109's had two tanks under the seats and outside fillers on both sides.
