Our resident worksmith and mod Das has penned yet another interesting yarn in this months CLR, now on its third issue.

Although I am very much enjoying the new magazine I am looking forward to a feature on something other than a swb of some kind, how about an FC in daily use?

There is a nice IIBFC in the July LRO. Made/restored by Andover Land Rover who seem to specialise in rhyming names.
LRO do seem to bang on about FCs rolling over. Are they really as unstable as my granny on a pub crawl or do LRO over egg the pudding If you remember a few years ago all the motoring press were banging on about rangerover classics being unstable which they are clearly not. I just wonder

I think it is a bit of an overstated issue. Obviously the FC will not have the same sidewards stability as an ordinary series motor, even the IIB with slightly wider axles. Off road they will in some cases out perform a bonneted vehicle (the approach and departure angles are superior for example) in others it would be left for dead, especially on side slopes. I think it is fair to say that for a long time rumours and myths have been repeated about various vehicles that the people repeating these myths have never even driven, for example that a 1-Ton will "only do 40mph", they will do a lot more than that, just not quietly or economically.

I did wonder about that sort of thing, is it just people repeating the received wisdom so often that it starts to sound like a major problem, or is there more to it? I mean I recon I have personally driven about 25 feet in an FC and although I did not fall over I still feel like I don’t have enough experience to be a good judge . (People in 88 always tell you that 109s don’t go over 40 and they make outrageous statements about fuel economy ).
… any way I may have to go and part with some cash to have a look at episode three of CLR, is this the one where Darth Vader kills all the younglings

Having driven a few IIB's I can't say they've felt like they were gonna tip, I know of one which is worked hard on and off road and often well loaded, it's yet to roll and kill the owner.

In fact Jeremy's V8 was pretty good on the road, with enough behind it to spin the wheels in 4th if I was brave enough.

Same for 101's, ex squaddies seem to think they fall over all the time, I found mine more prone to drift on bargrips, never rolled it trialing either. Ambulances are a bit more disconcerting, but still hold the road well.

Still, by some people reckoning we're all going to die horribly every time we turn the key...

Has anyone else spotted that there is now a magazine called Range Rover World? I saw it it WH Smiths when I went to buy CLRM yesterday. I have not seen anything online about it but found it interesting, maybe the demand is there as the price of Classic RR's has gone crazy recently. I wonder when the same will happen with Discoveries?

Tried to find CLR last night and all the shops were bare. So ether it is really popular and selling out or there is some sort of distribution dilemma I did see some LROs,Auto traders and lots of Top Gears but no other car stuff at all..........

I had to go to Kidderminster in the end….. no man deserves to be put through that!
