Hi

I've just recently bought a 68' 2b (some of you will have seen it on eBay no doubt!)

Needs some tlc but chassis is relatively good (although I think upper rail has be re-fabricated )and bulkhead is in great condition. Running a 2.8 Nissan ld28 diesel to a series 2a (not sure if fc box but it's factory rebuilt , whoopey!. I've got her moving under her own steam to check gearbox and transfer box operate ok. I've started removing the cab and plan to take her back to a rolling chassis and rebuild from there. Maybe put a hiab behind the cab

Inevitably I will be asking about spares, and hope to pick your brains I'm under the impression about 25% are unique to 2b's?

Looked a brilliant project that one. It'd be really nice built up as a dropside with the LD28 in there.
I've heard reports from a couple of people who run them and the general consensus is that it's pretty much a spot on engine in the series Land Rover, just the right amount of power and torque along with a nice six cylinder growl.

I'll be interested to see it progress.

the hi cap dropside body has been offered up on the rear to store the bits I'm taking off in, but I like the look of it, might adapt well with a crane infront, which I'm hoping to run off the pto

I've tried to load the image directly but the file is too big apparently

I'm really unsure about engine choice

Initially I thought I'd put in engine from a rotten disco 200 tdi I've got up the yard however I'm now not so sure, this engine seems really smooth, sounds great and fits really well, so if it's not broken, why mess around, not like I'm going to clock up significant miles each year is it.. I understand I'd need to use a 300 tdi inlet and exhaust mani and turbo if I don't want to cut into the upper chassis rail, sounds like a fair bit of messing around. My main concern is spares for the ld28, whereas 200 tdi are strong, easily available and at least the same marque

Still looking at what's got to be done before the engine goes back it I think I've plenty of time to consider it!

Nissan engines are generally good solid lumps, and parts are available if you know what to ask for, I believe the secret is knowing what other cars sold in the UK used them, including a few Datsun models.

It'll be an excellent engine in the FC, but if you do decide to put a Tdi in there instead then I'd be interested in the Nissan lump.

if you click the Img tab at te top of your post and then put the link in between the two IMg's it will embed, took me along time to work that one out
